We were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful view of towering bamboo from our comfortable tatami room at Arima Kirari. The room had a cool retro 70s style that we loved. The delicious included kaiseki dinner, equivalent to a Michelin star, and the gourmet buffet breakfast were both top-notch. The onsen experience was truly relaxing, with two floors of public onsen featuring various pools, waters, and saunas. We even got to visit the public onsen for free on the day we checked out. While there were some drawbacks, overall, I highly recommend this hotel for a memorable stay.

Facilities were very up to date. Breakfast was extensive and freshly prepared. Views of the lake were fabulous.
Staff seemed over-worked when we checked in, though they ended up being very helpful. Although this hotel is billed as a castle hotel, it is actually mostly updated, even the older parts, which felt a little cold and impersonal. Seemed like a great hotel for conferences, and other business uses.

Enjoyed the Christmas atmosphere and decorations of the hotel. The view from the room was stunning and breakfast was delicious. Appreciated the shuttle service to nearby attractions and onsen area.
The staff language barrier was frustrating, making it difficult to communicate needs with them. The hotel was located on a steep hill, making it hard to walk around the area.

The hotel provided frequent free bus transportation to and from the train station, and even to the ropeway. The onsen experiences were diverse, with two floors of public onsen featuring various pools and saunas. We particularly liked the basement onsen, exclusively for hotel guests, which stayed open until midnight. As an added bonus, we were able to visit the public onsen for free on the day of our check-out.
